This ties in with what I just said about older people taking longer to repair. By varying their exercises, they can work different muscles while the previously exercised muscles are being repaired.
So! Take a number and stand in lineâor think for yourself. Your body belongs to you. Itâs unique, itâs special, and it doesnât want party-line treatment.

How to Get Started
First, take my two tests, the body fat test in Chapter 5 and the fitness test in Chapter 14. Coupled together, theyâre dynamite! Thereâs no sense getting started if you donât know where youâre going. Without a starting point, you canât measure your progress. I urge, implore, push, beg you to take my two tests.
Taking my fat test puts you light years beyond all those diet books that expect you to lose weight without having any idea whether you are losing fat or losing muscle. Donât rely on the bathroom scales to tell you that youâre losing fat. To say âI used to be fatâ is too vague. We need a more specific way to talk about it. If I meet you someday, I want you to be able to tell me, âI used to be thirty percent fat and now Iâm down to twenty-five percent.â
My fitness test will also help you keep track of your progress. Saying something like âI feel fitter nowâ is nice, but itâs much too subjective and vague. How much fitter? How fit were you before? Using my fitness test gives you numbers so that before-and-after comparisons are real and comparisons with other people are useful. I want you to be able to tell me that you used to do a fifteen-minute mile and now you can do a twelve.
Together, the two tests put you head and shoulders above the uneducated masses who try to lose weight and get fit through trial and error and hocus-pocus.
